WALKWAY DESIGN

This project required creating a curved walkway over the running track in the field behind Lethbridge College. We were given a starting point, azimuths, and a radius, and used this information to design the walkway. We initially started with a horizontal curve calculation to ge the initial shape in plan view, as well as station numbers. We staked this information out using a total station. As we staked these points, we also surveyed the elevations at each point so we could do vertical curve calculations. We needed to ensure there was enough headroom over the track so it would still be usable. After we had our vertical curve calculations worked out, we used those numbers to calculate and stake out slope calculations for cut/fills of the walkway. We then used these calculations to place slope stakes along the horizontal curve stakes.
